Study German language and culture this summer in Cologne, at the University of Cologne. Low cost. Open to all students 18 yrs and older. Earn academic credit, transcript issued by University of Cologne, active social program with cultural activities and local field trips included. Levels CEF B1 and higher of German language available, as well as cultural electives in German history and business available. 16 lessons per week , plus additional 4 hours per week in grammar, listening, comprehension, and regional studies. Students take a placement exam to determine level, and are then placed in their proper level. 1 class hour = 45 minutes.

The University of Cologne (Universitat zu Koln) is one of Europe’s oldest and largest universities with an outstanding international reputation for high level academic education.
Has over 48,000 students annually, and more than 640 professors. Cologne is a major cultural center for the Rhineland, with over 30 museums and hundreds of galleries, as well as hosts a number of trade shows such as Art Cologne, imm Cologne, and Gamescom. It is the 4th most populous city in Germany after Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich. Cologne was one of the most heavily bombed cities in Germany during World War II, and the rebuilding has resulted in a very mixed and unique cityscape.
Intensive courses offered for Levels: CEF B1 and higher. Small group classes of 8 students, or less. 16 lessons per week, plus 4 additional hours in grammar, listening, comprehension, and regional studies (German history and business German). 1 hour = 45 minutes. All students are tested there, and placed in their proper level. Again, levels offered are CEF B1 and higher. Transcript certificate issued by University of Cologne. University level courses, with instructors from the University of Cologne. At the end of the summer course, there is a written final exam. Upon completion of the final examination, and regular participation in the course, and ECTS certificate (transcript) is issued (4.5 ECTS credits / 3 – 4 U.S. credits). 4.5 ECTS credits / 3 – 4 U.S. credits. Must take the final exam, and attend (regular participation) in the course required. Certificate (transcript) issued by the University of Cologne.
Single room in student residence (without meals) available for: 267 – 320 Euros (total).
Pay there for housing.
Accommodation with a Host Family (with meals on request) will cost between 300 – 375 Euros (total). Pay there.
Students can obtain meals at the university cafeteria at low “student prices”.
Bring $500 USD approx to cover all meals.

Social and leisure program mainly included in program fee:
City tour, excursions to surrounding are, company visits, museums, welcome evening and farewell dinner. Other activities or excursions may cost additional (optional / pay there).
* Sport facilities at the University is possible to use, for a small fee (paid there).
* The program fee includes 50% off the price of the public Tram or Bus tickets for Cologne.
