    Held at the Polytechnic University in St. Petersburg, the Summer Program in Russian Language and Culture, as well as the Semester programs, has gained recognition and prestige due to the participation of many reputed Russian and foreign professors, as well as of distinguished scholars and artists. The Intensive Russian Language and Cultural courses are taught by professors from the Polytechnic University, providing 4 – 6 ECTS credit hours per 4 weeks (Summer), and 25 – 30 ECTS credits for both the Fall and Spring Semester sessions. Lectures on Russian Culture and Civilization, as well as Language Workshops are offered. The Cultural program includes museum visits, performances, a musical evening, walking tours, and sightseeing in St. Petersburg heritage sites.

    St. Petersburg is the second (2nd) largest city in Russia. Population is over 5 million. It was founded by one of the most remarkable emperors ever in Russia – Peter the Great, and is considered the “Cultural capital” of Russia whereby the entire downtown is a protected UNESCO heritage site. Close to European borders (2.5 hrs drive to Finland), it is now considered to be a steady bridge between Russia and Europe. Overall, a fascinating city with a “romantic spirit”, offering a wide array of entertainment, restaurants, cafes, museums, and places of interest: the Hermitage, St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the Church of spilled blood, Nevsky Prospekt, Mariinsky Theatre, Alexander Nevsky Monastery, SS Peter and Paul Cathedral, and more.

    Russian Language & Culture: Summer Sessions & Semester (Fall & Spring).

    Summer Sessions earn 4 – 6 ECTS credit hours. 4 weeks: June / July / August

    5 Week Summer Semester: Russian Language & Culture – earn 5 – 7 ECTS credit hours. June – July.
    3 Cultural Courses taught in English included. Sample: History of Russian Art.

    Semester Sessions earn: 25 – 30 ECTS credit hours. Fall (September – December) / Spring (February – May).

    Students will be divided into 3 – 4 groups according to their language level – which is tested there upon arrival check-in.

    * Cultural Program is also provided, especially during the Summer sessions – sightseeing of historical heritage sites, and modules on modern cultural life.
    Including fun times with new found friends from all over the world – leisure activities and entertainment.

    6 LEVELS: A0, A1, A2, B1, B2, C1

    Level A0 – (Absolute beginner): No previous lessons. Starts with the elementary basics in phonetics, grammar, etc.

    Level A1-A2 (basic): studies the basic phonetic, grammatical, and lexical structures used in everyday conversation (such as “Let’s introduce ourselves”, “What time is it”, ect. Covers the typical daily conversations on the street, at the market, at a restaurant, at the bank exchange office, at the post office, at the hotel, getting a Taxi, talking about your home and family, and daily schedule. By the end of this course, the student will be able to interact in everyday conversations.

    Level B1-B2 (intermediate): aims at improving grammar and extending vocabulary. By studying literary texts of average difficulty, as well as journalistic publications (newspapers & magazines), and also by listening to radio and tv broadcasts. Overall, the student is expected to become an independent speaker, improving their comprehension ability and producing texts.

    Level C1 (advanced): improving and refining vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, special terminology, phraseology, and acquisition of stylistic, contemporary Russian). Student is expected to become an experimented speaker, able to obtain such a high level of proficiency- almost as a native speaker. Using both literary, and non-literary texts, according to what the student is interested in….as well as continued listening to media broadcasts.

    Certificate of Completion (attendance) is awarded to each student, issued by the University.

    SEMESTER PROGRAM (Fall & Spring) – Elective Courses Taught in English:
    * History of Russian Art – 3 ECTS credits per Semester
    * Russian History from Kievan Rus to the Revolution – 3 ECTS credits per Semester
    * Contemporary History of Russia: the Communist Phase – 3 ECTS credits per Semester
    * 19th Century Russian Literature – 3 ECTS credits per Semester
    * Contemporary Russian Literature – 3 ECTS credits per Semester

    * Business electives
    may also be available: Management & Marketing / Int’l Economic Relations / and Business Communication (Russian).
    Can inquire about these other courses after arrival check-in, and register for these if available. Taught in English.

    * Note: You are encouraged to bring a wireless enabled laptop.

    Students are lodged in a campus dormitory (Hostel). 5 minutes walk to st. m. Akademicheskaya.

    All rooms are for 2 people in a double room. Kitchen and bathroom in each room.

    Housing costs $300 USD per 4 weeks ($75 per wk). Add to program fee.

    Meals will cost approx $175 USD per month. Pay there.

    Early registration is advised, in order to get a room reserved.

    * Single room is possible. Cost extra. Inquire about single room upon arrival check-in, and pay difference directly there.
    CSA will also request a single room if desired.
