GERMAN LANGUAGE: Vienna

* Small group classes: maximum 16 students per class.
* German language classes taught in German. (morning / afternoon).
* Minimum age in Vienna: 16.
* Placement test given there to determine proper level.
* Text Books used in class include: Delfin (Elem) / Hauptkurs, Abschlusskurs, Dreyer-Schmitt, used for Intermdiate and Advanced. Textbooks cost 26 - 37 euros.

Elementary 1: For absolute beginner or participants with little knowledge, conversations using the most elementary phrases and frequently used grammatical forms for immediate communication in the German language. Completion of this course corresponds to level "A1" of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Elementary 2: For participants with basic knowledge, expanded vocabulary and improved style in everyday conversation to understand sentences on everyday topics and to read an understand simple texts, simple forms of written communication, elementary grammar.

Elementary 3: Conversation about everyday topics (culture, sports, travel, etc.), reading simple prose from literature and newspapers, written repetition exercises and reports, intensified morphology, selected chapters from syntax. Completion of this course corresponds to level "A2" of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Elementary 4: Language us including the entire basic vocabulary, short talks on topics of general interest and work-related issues, understanding the radio news, reading newspapers and texts from literature, compositions on various problems, discussing the different stylistic values of syntactical forms and idioms. Completion of this course corresponds to level "B" of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Intermediate 1: For participants with good command of German, discussions on specific topics, accurate reading and listening comprehension, gaining skills such as argumentation, reporting, summarising and commenting as well as grammar structures and expanded vocabulary.

Intermediate 2: Conversation beyond everyday situations, talking about more specific subjects, awareness of functional use, ability to use a variety of registers, understanding of subject-related texts and lectures, exercises on the stylistic use of the modern German language. Completion of this course corresponds to level "B" of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Intermediate 3: Understanding of scientific lectures, elocution exercises to intensify idiomatic and stylistic expression, reading texts from literature and selected technical articles, completing the basic and advanced vocabulary, written texts, oral reports and discussions on the student's courses of studies and professions, vocabulary and free speech exercises, stylistic drills on modern language usage. In this level, you can select from different fields of interest: culture, literature, linguistics, and economy.

Advanced 1: For participants with very good knowledge of German, reading modern German literature and articles on different topics, perfecting the command of the language by vocabulary exercises, oral reports and discussions. Completion of this course corresponds to level "C1" of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This level is also designed for students and teachers of "German abroad" and literature and linguistics. Students are assessed to levels by means of an interview at the beginning of the course.
