Italian Language: all levels - beginning, intermediate,
advanced. Courses are offered year-around and taught by qualified teachers. Classes are taught in small
groups, for 4 hrs. daily (M-F). Before the course begins, each student is given a placement test to determine level of Italian
language ability. Arrive on Sunday (1 day prior).
Level 1: Basic grammar and sentence structure. Essential vocabulary. Phonetics. Listening comprehension exercises. Conversation. Dictations. This course establishes the basis for a self-assurance conversation leading to independence in essential situations.Level
2: Development of basic grammar. Vocabulary building. Phonetics. Dictations. Exercises in oral summarizing. Conversation. Elementary readings.
Level 3: Completion of basic grammar and its application. Vocabulary building. Written composition. Readings from contemporary authors (Calvino and Pratolini, for example). In this course, the student reaches a
good level of competence and is capable of coping with normal situations in an
Italian environment.
Level 4: Syntactic
structures and their use. Idiomatic expressions. Written composition. Conversation and discussion. Readings from contemporary authors (Moravia
and Montale, for example). Readings from newspapers and magazines. A good level
of expression is attained in this course.
Level 5: Special syntactic structures. Synonyms and idiomatic expressions in
everyday speech. Special topics in grammar morphology. Conversation
and discussion on current topics. Readings from contemporary authors. Reading and analysis of newspaper and magazine articles. In this course, fluency is attained.
Level 6: Analysis, assimilation and use
of more complex structures of the language. Topics of interest to the class. Contemporary readings. This course is the top level (Superior), and aims at general excellence.

Italian Cooking Courses: For those who love Italian food and want to learn to prepare traditional dishes (appetizers,
pasta, meat, fish, vegetables, pizzas, desserts, etc.), the program offers individual practical courses in the home of the cooking instructor. These courses can be combined with our language courses. Available year-around,
except August. Each lesson (cooking session) is for 3 hours, offered in morning and afternoon, and cost varies - ask CSA if interested.
In each lesson a complete menu is prepared (lunch or dinner) with apertif, appetizer, first and second courses, vegetables and dessert.... and eaten. Advance booking is recommended, just inform CSA how many sessions (cooking lessons) you want.

Academic Credit
Students earn 3-4 credits per month. Thus, about 1 credit per week. 4 hours of class are taught daily, 20 hours per week. Italian Course descriptions available upon request

Financial Aid
Yes, you can use your financial aid on this program. Please have your Financial Aid office e-mail us a "Consortium Agreement" to complete and sign. CSA does not offer any scholarships or financial aid, we can only assist you in using your home school's financial aid on this program.
The earlier the better, since it takes time to process. Overall, CSA does not offer any financial aid, we can only assist you in obtaining and using your aid from your home school on these programs.

Activities
Various activities are organized in which all students may participate free of charge during each course. Includes guided tours of Rome, art history, regions of Italy, and Italian wines. Internet access available.

Housing
Italian host families or student residence are provided. Every effort will be made to provide convenient accommodations and meet individual requirements. Single rooms are available with an Italian family. Housing with a family is recommended. Meals are not included in housing arrangements, but breakfast may be included with some Italian families. All housing is confirmed prior to arrival. Other meals can be arranged after arrival.
Housing in student type flats are located in various areas of the city. All housing is confirmed as close to the school as possible, but some locations may require a commute. Student flats are "European style", whereby you have your own room, but you often share the kitchen and bathrooms.
Double room costs $250 per week. Single $300 per week. Half-board (2 meals daily) cost $30 per day. You can arrange own housing if you prefer.

Requirements
Programs are open to all adults. High school students, college students teachers, working adults, professionals, and retired persons are all encouraged to apply. Minimum age is 18. 17 years of age may apply with parental consent.
Entry Requirements
Valid passport required. Visa not required for tourist stay up to 3 months. For longer stays, employment or study, obtain visa in advance.
Arrival
Arrive 1 day prior to starting date (Sunday) to check-in for housing. Rome Airport Pick-up service available for cost $80 - $95 (estimate)
