UNIVERSITY OF NANTES French Language & Culture - 2010 4 Weeks - $895 / Semester - $2495 Price Discounts Available!  The Program Study French language and culture in Nantes, France. The University of Nantes was originally founded in 1460, and then re-established in 1962. Programs are offered for the Academic Year, Semester, and Summer. Courses consist of primarily French Language and French Civilisation. There are six(6) levels available: elementary, advanced elementary, intermediate, advanced intermediate, superior, and advanced superior. Student office is on the main campus - Tertre Campus. A placement test is given to all students upon arrival. Open to all students, minimum age is 18. This is a full immersion program in French Language and Culture. Join us! RETURN TO TOP The Location Nantes, France, known as the "Venice of the West", is located on the banks of the Loire River, at the confluence of the Erdre and the Sevre Nantaise. It is 55 km (35 miles) from the Atlantic Ocean, making it easy to visit the coast. Nantes climate is usually cool in the winter and mild in the summer. It is often known as the "greenest city" in France and one of the most livable cities in all of Europe. Since 1995, Nantes has been divided into 11 neighborhoods, each resembling a historic city quarter, and 9 of which are situated on the right bank of the Loire. The city of Nantes, and the Loire-Atlantique were formerly part of the historic province of Britany. Major cultural sights include: Cathedrals of Saints Peter and Paul, Castle of the Dukes of Brittany, Sainte Croix Church, Basilica of Saint Nicolas, Nantes History Museum, and the Place du Commerce (city's main square). Program student office is located on the main campus - Tertre Campus, located on the Erdre River in the northern part of the city, only 20 mintes by tram to the city center. Overall, Nantes is a unique and very attractive place to study French Language and Culture. You will experience a true French "immersion" in Nantes, for there are fewer english speakers. Join us!  RETURN TO TOP Courses FRENCH LANGUAGE: all levels offered (6) - elementary, advanced elementary, intermediate, advanced intermediate, superior, and advanced superior. A placement test is given to all students upon check-in, and placed in the proper level course. Courses are university level, and taught by university trained instructors. All areas of language instruction is included: grammar, phonetics, speaking, and writing. Semester length programs are 18 hours per week, and Summer Session is 15 hrs per week. All courses taught in French. FRENCH CULTURE: In addition, courses in French History and Contemporary Society is offered. All courses are taught in French. For those students whose level is advanced intermediate and higher, there are additional French Culture workshops to select from. Advanced Intermediate Level Workshops: Superior to Advanced Superior Level Workshops: * Detailed course listings available upon request. * French Language and Culture Courses, as well as Cultural Workshops are held Monday - Friday, between 8:00 am - 6:00 pm. All courses taught in French. * Courses also enable students to enroll and prepare for the following diplomas: DELF, DALF, TCF, DAP. RETURN TO TOPAcademic Credit Students earn 12 - 15 Semester credits for completing Fall or Spring Semester. 18 hours of class per week during each Semester. 2 - 4 credits earned during the Summer Session. Courses are "University Level" and taught by university trained instructors (faculty). All students will receive an academic record and statement of attendance upon completing the courses. Transcript is from the University of Nantes. One must pass the exams to receive the actual "University Diploma" in French as a Foreign Language. RETURN TO TOP Activities Students have access to University facilities, including the libraries, computer labs, cafeterias, and sport facilities. Students are also encouraged to join any university clubs or sports. Excursions may be organized to visit local sights in Nantes and other nearby locations, which are optional, and may cost a small participation fee to cover transportation and any entrance fees (museums, theatre, historical sights). with so much to see in Nantes and nearby areas, as well as the ocean coast close by, it is easy for students do short trips on weekends and holidays. The staff in the student office in Nantes will assist all students in getting to know what is available to do on campus and in the local community. Overall, students have a good social life, make new friends, get involved, and have a wonderful experience. Housing is extra, and not included in program price. Rates vary from $225 per month for residence, to over $800 per month for furnished apartment. Keep in mind that the student office is on the Main Campus - called "Tertre Campus".
