The Location

The programs are conducted in modern office buildings in both the Yaumatei area of Kowloon and the Wanchai area of Hong Kong island. Conveniently located next to the subway, the main center has over 3000 square feet of classrooms and language laboratory, fully equipped with audio and visual aids to facilitate language training.

Hong Kong means “fragrant harbor”, and originally referred to only the main island, but now includes Kowloon, the New Territories, and the outside islands as well. With a population of over 5 million, Hong Kong continues to be a shining symbol of capitalism and remains a powerful influence in international business as well as a major transportation and communications hub for not only China but all of Asia. Hong Kong’s hard working and imaginative people have created a standard of living matched by few developing countries, all in just the past 50 years. In 1997, the British government transfered full sovereignty of the islands and New Territories back to China, with the understanding by China that Hong Kong’s economic freedom and capitalist lifestyle would be preserved for at least 50 years. Thus, the agreement “two systems, one China”.

Courses

Students take 3 hours of class per day, Monday – Friday. Thus, 15 hours of studies per week, or 60 hours per month. This includes a 1 hour language lab. Class times are held in the morning or afternoon, depending on your level. All students take a placement test to determine level, and then placed in the proper level course. All levels are offered, from the absolute beginner thru intermediate and advanced levels. Both Cantonese and Mandarin courses are available, with a major focus on “immersion – conversation” learning as well as reading and writing. Students are guided to speak only Cantonese or Mandarin in the classroom, and class size is kept small (7 or less), to maximize personal attention. All the courses are taught by qualified teachers from Hong Kong who have completed special training for teaching Chinese as a second language to non-native speakers. A transcript (Certificate) is awarded to all students upon completing the course. See the program dates section for more schedule information.
