The Program
Study Mandarin Chinese and experience the culture in Beijing, China. Beijing is the center of Chinese heritage and government, offering many historical sights to see. Programs are available weekly, with a minimum of 2 weeks. Non-beginners can start on any Monday, while beginners start on specific dates as mentioned in the Dates section. Housing is available in student type apartments, private studio, or stay with Chinese host family. Minimum age is 16. Open to all students and adults. Program is located in central Beijing. Join us!

Courses
All students take four(4) group lessons a day, M-F. Classes are held from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm. Small group classes of less than 12 students (average about 5). Placement test given to determine which course level. Non-beginners can start on any Monday. Absolute beginners must start on one of the designated start dates (see dates and price section). Open to all students and adults.
Courses are “immersion” focus on practical Chinese language skills of speaking, listening, and reading phonetics with emphasis on conversation. Actual course descriptions can be obtained from the instructor upon starting the course.
Academic Credit
2 – 4 credits for 4 week program. This is a private language program, not a university program, but credit is possible. See the “Academic Credit” section of the main menu for details.
Financial Aid

Activities
A variety of activities may include: guided visits to Tiananmen Square, the 798 Art Area, Great Wall, Summer Palace, Olympic Park, Birds Nest National Stadium, and Forbidden City. Learn Chinese calligraphy, how to make noodles, eating Beijing Duck, and other cultural activities. Attendance is optional. Small fee for entrance and transportation may be required. Overall, lot’s of fun things to do and see!
Housing
4 options to choose from
Single Room Shared Apartment: private room with bed, desk, chaor, wardrobe, internet access, telephone and free local calls, bed linens, towels, blanket, TV, Air Conditioning with heating, water, gas, electricity, access to shared kitchen, and shared bathroom….washing machine. Cleaning service weekly. Travel time to school, back and forth, is 5 – 30 minutes by walking or public transportation. No meals.
Costs 3500 RMB (est $595 USD) per 2 weeks. Summer supplement 180 RMB per week extra.
Private Studio Apartment: This option gives you a clean, quiet and comfortable studio apartment – giving you your own private space. Includes all the items listed above in the “shared apartment”…..but with the private studio you do not share anything. You have your own private bathroom and kitchen. Travel time to school, back and forth, is 5 – 30 minutes by walking or public transportation. Meals not included.
Costs 5880 RMB (est $995 USD) per 2 weeks. Summer supplement of 290 RMB per week extra. Paid upon check-in.
Host Family: Single room with bed, plus breakfast and dinner. Includes all the items mentioned above in the “shared apartment”. Travel time to school, back and forth can be: 30 – 60 minutes by local transportation. 2 meals daily included.
Costs 3320 RMB (est $525 USD) per 2 weeks. Summer supplement of 160 RMB per week extra.
* 500 RMB (est $80 USD) housing placement fee added to total (one time fee).
Locate Own Housing: If you prefer, you can arrange your own housing. Please let us know where you will be staying so we can have it on file. Staff there need to know how to reach you.

Arrival
Plan on arriving the day before classes begin to check-in your housing (1 -2 days prior – weekend). Earlier arrivals will require you to arrange own housing. Airport pick-up is available for 380 RMB ($65 USD) one way. Let us know in advance (e-mail flight details). School staff person meets you at the Shanghai airport…and escorts you to the school or housing. Otherwise, you can take airport transportation on your own for less (public taxi, or private taxi with English speaking driver – can be hired at airport transport desk). Passport & Visa: Both are required. Use your CSA confirmation to apply for your short-term visitor visa. You need a passport first, before you can apply for a visa. See the “Visa/Passport” section.
Requirements
Minimum age is 16. Open to all students and adults from all countries. Passport and Entry Visa required. All students apply for own passport and visa.
Registration
Register online. Free registration – no cost. But in order to expedite your enrollment and confirmation processing, please pay the $45 USD deposit (recommended). Can pay quickly online, or added to your confirmation deposit payment. In order to be confirmed and receive your confirmation documents (admission docs), the “Confirmation Deposit” is required. CSA accepts personal checks, cashier checks, money orders, credit card checks, direct deposits, and wire transfers. Please review the “Register-Overview” section of the main menu for details. An email letter is sent when you register online, and a receipt email is sent for all payments. All payments are credited to your account – towards the total cost. Thank you.
